First semester Reflection

Quality of work
Most of the work i do or have done I have put a significant amount of time and effort into. Most of the stuff in the beginning was difficult because I didn't know how to use photoshop very well, but over time I have become more adapt to the many different ways photoshop can be used. I have been able to finish my work in a timely fashion and meet the requirements for the assignments even when my first ideas don't work out I manage to rethink my design and make them work.

Effort
I do put in a good bit of effort but sometimes my pieces are lacking. I usually come up with an idea of what I want my piece to look like before I start the project, however I do add some last minute things. I tend to develop a few variations of my original piece so I can explore all my options. As of right now I avoid something that I think would be too difficult for me, I don't like to challenge myself right out of the gate because I tend to be very shy and insecure about my art. Overall I have a positive attitude towards feedback from my peers, The people in this class aren't trying to pick on me by commenting on my art, they are just expressing their opinions and suggestions. my designs and process are working well for and i am quite proud of the work I've done.

Participation
I have been on time to class and I have been kept busy by the workload in this class. I tend to keep to myself and work alone, this enables me to focus better on what it is that I am doing and allows me to think freely. I am able to work effectively in this class and that is made easier by the relaxed environment.

Improvement
My digital art style has developed greatly since the first day I took this class, in fact, my art style is always evolving. I have never been the most confident person when it comes to my art, that is something I definitely need to work on. I should take bigger risks in my art, the only reason  don't is because one of my biggest fears is disappointing or failing others. The most painful thing is when someone is disappointed in me. You could stab me in the heart but it still wouldn't hurt as badly as disappointment does.

Adjustment
When it comes down to it I need to make my pieces more intricate in semester 2. There is nothing wrong with them now, It just feels like some of them are missing something. I need to challenge myself more with my pieces. Currently they meet all the requirements but I believe that I could go above and beyond what is expected of me and I hope to do so in semester 2.

Magritte

In "Empire of light" magritte is using a day sky and he contrasts it with the lamp lit town, creating the illusion that the daylight only comes from behind the town.

"Are you lost in the world like me?"

1) What is the general premise of the video?
The video focuses on people and their attachment to the digital world. People hide behind a screen and don't have to face consequences that their actions bring about, in fact, they don't have to face reality at all because they are sucked into their phones all the time. They are turning into emotionless monsters who don't care about the world. If you aren't on the digital bandwagon you are effectively an outcast.

2) Is the video successful in conveying it's intended message?
This video was meant to convey that our society is flawed and It succeeded in doing just that. No matter what someone is like in reality they can be anyone they want to be online and that corrupts our children. Kids are learning to be superficial at a young age and its terrifying.

3) Do you feel this is more of a cautionary story or an examination of our current social situation? Why?
This story is a representation of our society currently as much as it is a projection for the future. People begin to lose a sense of themselves and begin to change themselves into society's ideal, no matter what the cost is.

Tweet This!

1) The article was highlighting the trend of colleges checking their applicants social media.

2) As social media advances I believe that this trend will continue and could potentially evolve.

3) If a student posts incriminating things online they are effectively screwing themselves over in their search to find a suitable college or a job. Colleges and employers don't want students or employees who appear to make questionable decisions online.

Online Art Generators

Flame painter
This is probably the most universal art generator that i came across. the brush mechanism resembles a bead necklace and if you put you finger in the necklace on the ground and move it around slowly it will stay close together and draw relatively precise lines, and if you move your hand quickly the necklace will move more on its own and spread color wherever it pleases. Saving is simple, all you need to do is press the save button and then click save on the pop up.

Jackson Pollack
This art generator takes after jackson pollack's abstract style of splatter painting. it is difficult to use as every time you pause a glob of paint falls on the page. you cannot chose the colors but every time you click the color changes. The only way to save your work is to take a screen cap (command+shift+4 for a mac) but every time you press the shift key a signature and some text pops up but if you press shift again it goes away. So to save on a mac make sure you press the shift key once before you take a screen capture.

This is sand
This art generator is difficult to use if you want to draw something precise as it mimics falling sand. It does take a long time to create a piece but there is a spectrum of colors to choose from. It was relatively easy to save as you just need to click the three bars on the left and then the camera button by the finish button and save the file the same way you would normally.

Weave Silk
Weave silk is a symmetry based art program, You can turn that off if you want to though. There are limited colors and virtually no control to the program but that allows you to create almost water-like designs. It is simple to save as you just right-click the thumbnail and save the file as you would any other.

Mid-century Modern to Victorian

Mid-century Modern

Victorian

1) the biggest challenge in interpreting my mid-century modern design into a victorian inspired design was finding a suitable kind of lace design for the background.

2) The Mid-Century modern art style has lots of bright colors and bold outlines whereas Victorian inspired art tends to consist of more neutral colors and wispy designs.

3) If i were to redo this project i would make the bird in the victorian inspired design a little bigger as to draw the focus a little more.

Mutant Me

Mutant Me

The mutant strain that has affected me is called demon disease.

Some Physical indications that you may have demon disease are black eyes and strange colored hair as well as a sudden change in hight.

Those affected by demon disease tend to lose all emotions and have trouble reading others emotions.

They do however gain photographic memory and telepathy, they can even move objects with their minds and alter others thoughts.

Those affected by demon disease tend to spend an increased amount of time alone and often stray far away from home.

Eating habits are also strange, those affected often don't eat for days at a time but when they do eat they consume anything.

The appearance of people affected often scare people so they don't spend much time socially interacting with others.

Those affected also experience an increased learning capacity and can memorize entire textbooks at a time.

my plans for the future have been altered slightly. since i now have an expanded brain capacity and can memorize anything i will seek out knowledge of everything imaginable.

The Power of Internet Images

The Power of Internet Images

I feel jenny is trying to portray herself as adventurous, carefree, free-spirited, unique, and fun.
I believe she was successful In doing so. All of the pictures are taken in happy settings.
Jenny would make a good role model because she likes to have fun.

Six word Phrase

Six Word Phrase
I chose the image because it shows a very dangerous scenario. I chose black for the font because it contrasts the lighter background and creates a darker more morbid feel to the piece. I chose several different fonts to emphasize different words, I chose the blockish stencil for experience and risk because I wanted the main focus to fall there versus on the other words. I chose a playful font for was and the to contrast the stern font of experience and risk. I chose a cursive-like font for the and worth to balance out the blocky nature of experience and risk.
